NRA Basic Shotgun Shooting Course
The Basic Shotgun Shooting Course is a class where students develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to safely use a shotgun to shoot moving targets. You do not have to have prior experience as this class is open to students at any level! Topics covered include the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; shotgun actions, parts and operation; shotgun shell components; shotgun shell malfunctions; shooting fundamentals; aiming and leading; range rules; shooting at straight away and angled targets; cleaning; care of the firearm, safe storage and transportation and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet and take a Basics of Shotgun Shooting Student Examination. Upon successful completion you will receive a course completion certificate.
Note: This class will be held in three parts. Two evenings for the classroom portion from 6:00 – 9:00 pm, plus range time. Range time will occur at a local range on the weekend following the classroom instruction and times will be scheduled during the class. If the student is a minor, a parent/legal guardian must bring the student and sign a liability waiver upon arrival to the course. Also, range fees, ammunition, ear, and eye protection are not included. This course is a pre-requisite to the NRA Shotgun instructor course.
