NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course
The NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course will include classroom and range time where students develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to safely handle a rifle in target shooting. This class is taught by an NRA certified instructor and is open to students of any level. Topics covered include NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle actions, parts, and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing, and kneeling positions; cleaning, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet and take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination. Upon completion students will receive a course completion certificate.
Note: The class will be held in three parts. Two evenings for the classroom portion from 6:00 – 9:00 pm, plus range time. Range time will occur at a local range on the weekend following the classroom instruction and times will be scheduled during the class. If the student is a minor, a parent/legal guardian must bring the student and sign a liability waiver upon arrival to the course. Range fees, ammunition, ear, and eye protection are not included in the course. This course is a pre-requisite to the NRA rifle instructor course.
